After greeting his fellow councillors “in the name of happiness”, the City of Johannesburg’s latest mayor, Dada Morero, promised to fix its finances.
“Based on our governance experience, we will stabilise the City’s finances …” he said in his acceptance speech.
Morero’s election followed the ousting of Dr Mpho Phalatse, who said she would challenge, in court, the lawfulness of the meeting during which Morero was elected. (Update 25/10/22: The court reinstated Phalatse.)
