State of the cities: 12 new promises for Ekurhuleni, eThekwini

Less wasted water, load-shedding exemptions for industrial customers, and support for black-owned tuck shops are among the new mayor of Ekurhuleni’s early promises.

Sivuyile Ngodwana made these commitments in his first state of the city address on Tuesday (25 April 2023).

His counterpart from eThekwini meanwhile promised that “every cent” of a R1.5 billion flood relief grant from national government will be spent on “outstanding infrastructure issues”.

Mxolisi Kaunda, one of only two metro mayors who have remained in their posts since the start of the term, made this promise in his latest state of the city address on Wednesday (26 April 2023).

Based on their state of the city speeches, we have added five new promises for Kaunda and seven for Ngodwana to our database.
