Retief Odendaal, the new mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay, is “confident” of making a difference within weeks.
“We are confident that over the next couple of weeks, residents of Nelson Mandela Bay will start seeing a difference in the service delivery that comes their way,” he said in an interview with eNCA’s Thulasizwe Simelane.
Odendaal (DA), a former mayoral committee member for budget and treasury, was elected after Eugene Johnson (ANC) got the boot in a vote of no confidence that received 62 votes. Fifty-eight councillors voted against the motion.
Ten months ago, Johnson won the mayoral seat by an even tighter margin. She received 60 votes against her opponent’s 59. In the early hours of Thursday morning, Odendaal also received 60 votes against his opponent’s 59.
